: South Royalton School was one of three schools in the United States selected to participate in a new Global Impact Apprentice Challenge (GIA) through Empower Peace.  South Royalton School’s GIA team will be paired with a Middle East/North Africa (MENA) high school for an environmental leadership competition based upon common interests.  Communication, planning, and promotion will occur through digital technologies, joint service-learning initiatives and a cultural exchange.  Points are awarded during each of the three videoconferences scheduled during 2010-2011.  Contacts: M. $ 15,075.00: K-8 students receive a daily produce snack, the variety and capability was made possible through the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, Child Nutrition Programs through the Vermont Department of Education.  Contacts:  L. Wheelock and D. Benoit.

$ 1,300.00: 40 gallons of paint for the school campus awarded by the True Value Foundation – Painting a Brighter Future, awarded through Welch’s True Value.  Contacts: D. Thresher and M. Waterman.

$10,000: Music and Visual Arts students in grades 5-12 are able to digitally showcase juried artistic creations and receive support through Vermont’s on-line arts mentoring through this award of digital cameras, computers, and MIDI recording software through a Title II, Part D grant award:  Enhancing Education through Technology in Arts Education.  Contacts:  A. $ 50,000.00: Roof mounted solar photovoltaic panels for education, a Solar in Schools Award funded by the US Dept of Energy, through Vermont Department of Education and Senator Sanders.  Contacts:  M. Waterman, S. Pickett, D. Benoit, R. Ballou, E. Ellerson.

$ 20,000.00: Match funds for Solar in Schools (roof mounted solar photovoltaic panels) by Vermont Renewable Energy Incentives through Vermont Department of Public Service, coordinated by ReKnew Energy Systems, Inc.

$ 2,803.00: A heater booster for the dishwasher partially funded by a Food Service Equipment grant.   

$ 5,000.00: One videoconferencing camera, one monitor, setup assistance from Northeast Computers, and associated services with CILC content bank funded through Title II, Part D:  Enhancing Education through Technology for the Learning Network of Vermont (Camera Grant).  Contacts:  R. $ 39,664.00: Installation of new walk in cooler/freezer for food service.  Awarded by Vermont Dept of Education, National School Lunch Program, ARRA Equipment Assistance Funds.  Lead Faculty/Staff:  L. Wheelock, S. Pickett, M. Waterman.

$ 4,997.99: Alternative Energy Momentum, a feasibility study of alternative energy implementation utilizing electric generation technologies.   Awarded by Vermont Public Service, a Technical Assistance Grant.  Lead Faculty/Staff: M. Waterman, and G. Fleming.

$ King Arthur Flour Company Presentation: Middle School presentation, then students get free ingredients to make two loaves of bread with one returned to the school and donated to local food shelves.  Awarded by King Arthur Flour Company through faculty leadership: N. Chapman.

$ Visiting Author-Illustrator Presentation: Students grades K-6 prepare for and meet with author/illustrator, Chris Demarest, presentation awarded by CLiF (Children’s Literacy Foundation).  Lead Faculty/Staff: J. Tewksbury, B. Seymour, and M. Waterman.

$ 8,893.00 + Professional Development: Heart Rate Monitors for “Steps to Wellness” in Physical Education. Awarded by Vermont Dept of Education, a School Wellness Grant.  Lead Faculty/Staff: J. Thomas, J. Hewitt, R. Ballou

$  500.00: Continuation funds for Spin Casting, Fly Fishing, & Ice Fishing in Physical Education, awarded as a result of J. Thomas PE website.  Awarded by Physh ED National Fishing & Boating Education Grants Initiative, Lead Educator: J. Thomas

$ Full Cost for 2008, Half Cost 2009:  SoRo Freshman Orientation, Hulbert Center, Lake Morey, VT.  Awarded by the Aloha Foundation through Lead Contact/Educator: B. Goldsworthy.  Student comments:  “I now think of my class as an awesome group, who works well together.” Another student reflected, “I can conquer my fears if I really put my mind to it.” Another commented, “I need to step out of the leader role more often and give others the spotlight.” Bill Goldsworthy, facilitator of this new event enthusiastically added, “It was great to hear a student state how this related to our school mission of helping students develop Physically, Intellectually, Emotionally, and Socially.”
