English: Seventh grade students sharpen their reading and writing skills and are introduced to new terms and methods of analysis that will increase their comprehension of literature. Students work with a variety of literature (short stories, poems and novels), and various writing genres (persuasive essays, expository essays, research papers and narratives). (ext. 241)
Math: Using the Connected Math program, 7th grade math students study integers and graphing. Pre-algebra and geometry are introduced. Concepts are applied to probability, interest rates, percents ad other real world mathematical expressions. (ext. 238)
Science: Seventh grade science focuses upon chemistry and the study of the human body. (ext.240) Social Studies: In seventh grade social studies focuses on American history. The year begins with reading and understanding the U.S. Constitution and then moves to an exploration of events from the early 1800s through the Civil War. (ext. 240 or 241)
French: Students begin their study of a foreign language with French. Basic vocabulary and conversational skills are stressed. Students will be able to write simple sentences and paragraphs by the end of the year and be well-prepared for French 1 participation in 8th grade.
