2016-17 Sixth Grade Welcome Letter

August 1, 2016

Dear Sixth-Grade Students and Families:

Welcome to middle school! I will be the homeroom teacher for the class of 2023. This means that I will be your first point of contact for important information. I hope that everyone had an awesome summer and you are prepared to start the year of learning.

For those of you who may not know me, I am going into my eighth year of teaching middle school English at SoRo, and I continue to be excited about teaching and learning with middle school students. I am moving to Wilder, VT with my fiancée right before school starts. I am excited to live closer to my school community so that I can actually come see some sports games! I graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2009, but I grew up in Waitsfield and Fayston, Vermont. I love Vermont, the beach, bonfires, fall, curling up on the couch with a good book, and most genres of music. I spent my summer working as the director of a day camp in Montpelier, but I am ready to get back to my classroom!

We will attend morning meeting in the big gym on Mondays. Every other day of the week, you will start your day with me. During time with me, we will review procedures, requirements, policies, supply lists, where to find things, how to use your planner, and much more! We will have extra time together to do special activities such as organizing our binders and lockers, doing team-building activities, and setting and monitoring goals.

As your homeroom teacher, English teacher, etc… you can always come to me with any concerns, problems, or questions. Although you can talk with any adult in the building about these things, I will be the primary contact for you and your parents so that your first middle school year is successful! E-mail is the best way to get ahold of me, but please feel free to call and leave a voicemail if you prefer the phone. I am here to help in any way I can. I hope to see all of you at the new middle schooler orientation on August 30th. Details are provided below!

Sincerely,
